Jerry Sandusky to Appear in Centre County Court Next Week for Post-Sentencing Hearing
Jerry Sandusky will return to Centre County, albeit for a short period, when he appears in Bellefonte on Jan. 10 for his post-sentencing hearing.
Judge John Cleland signed an order Thursday that the Centre County Sheriff's Department transport Sandusky from the State Correctional Institution at Greene in southwest Pennsylvania to the Centre County Courthouse for the hearing.
The hearing is part of Sandusky's appeal, built around the premise that his defense team did not have adequate time to prepare for June's trial.
Sandusky, the former Penn State defensive coordinator sentenced in October to at least 30 years in prison after being convicted on 45 counts in a child sex abuse case, wrote a letter to The (Wilkes Barre) Citizens' Voice last month saying he is "trying to learn from, grow from and endure the struggles and circumstances" surrounding his conviction and incarceration.
He maintains his innocence.
