Just Crowned, Miss Black USA Is A Penn Stater

Penn State alumna Osas Ighodaro, well recognized as an actor in film and television, has been crowned Miss Black USA 2010.

She has a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from Penn State and is working on a masters in fine arts at Pace University, according to a recent report on TheRoot.com.

Ighodaro won the crown as Miss Black Connecticut USA before going on to claim the national honor earlier this month, PR Newswire reported. "She immediately gave praise of thanksgiving to God during her acceptance of the crown at the historical Lincoln Theatre in Washington, D.C.," the report reads.

She is quoted as having said: "It's an honor to be crowned where President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama resides. It would be my dream to meet the first lady."

Ighodaro is expected to a celebrity advocate and help raise awareness of heart disease, according to the PR Newswire piece.

It indicates that the Miss Black USA honor comes along with $20,000 prize package, including a trip to Africa and a scholarship to the New York School for Dramatic Arts.

Ighodaro has appeared in the TV drama "Law and Order" and the 2006 film "My African Uncle," among a number of other noted works, according to her IMDB.com profile.
