Penn State recovered from a slow start to earn its first conference road victory since Jan. 26, defeating Minnesota, 68-65, Sunday afternoon.
Penn State (18-5, 8-3, Big Ten) was led by forward Mia Nickson, who scored a season-high 20 points, including 10-for-12 from the free throw line. Maggie Lucas became the third sophomore in program history to reach 1,000 career points.
The Lady Lions climbed out of a 27-12 hole with less than five minutes remaining to bring the halftime deficit to just eight.
Twelve minutes into the second half, Alex Bentley hit a fast break basket to put the Lady Lions in front, 53-51. Bentley later hit a 3-pointer with less than a minute left in regulation, which proved to be the game-winning basket.
The Lady Lions and Gophers both shot 22-for-58 (37.9 percent) from the field.
Penn State returns to action 7 p.m. Thursday against Wisconsin at the Bryce Jordan Center.
