Lady Lions Win on the Road, Defeating Iowa 87-71
Hitting the road in the Big Ten is not an easy task for any of the conference teams, but the Lady Lions found a way to pick up a victory over Iowa Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Lions never trailed on the way to a 87-71 win over the Hawkeyes in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Penn State jumped out to an early lead which it never gave up -- leading by as many as 15 in the first half.
However, the contest was still up for grabs in the second half. Iowa cut the lead to one point several times early in the second half but the Lady Lions handled the runs and eventually pulled away in the end for the win.
Maggie Lucas struggled through the middle portion of the game missing 10 straight shots. She eventually found her range and finished with 27. Lucas was one of five Lady Lions in double figures. Dara Taylor added 17, Ariel Edwards chipped in with 11 after picking up her 4th foul early in the second half and playing limited time in the second stanza, Talia East and Tori Waldner each had 10.
East also had 10 rebounds for her first career double/double. Off the bench, Peyton Whitted had her best game as a Lady Lion with career highs in points (8) and rebounds (6).
Now its of off to Illinois on Thursday night for another road conference matchup with a tip time of 9:00.
