Lane Closures to Be in Place for I-99 Improvement Project

by on May 24, 2018 11:43 AM

Drivers will encounter lane closures and possible travel delays when road improvement work begins next week on a 3-mile stretch of Interstate 99 in Centre County, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Work to improve ride quality and extend the life of the roadway begin Tuesday in College and Patton townships, between the Atherton Street exit and the bridges spanning the Bellefonte Trail near the Waddle Road interchange.

The initial work will include closures of one lane northbound and one southbound for structure repair and rehabilitation of the bridges, with the first phase expected to be completed by July 2.

Following completion of the structure work, nighttime milling and paving will take place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the northbound lanes and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the southbound lanes. Short-term lane closures will be in place while this work is taking place and lanes will remain open when work is not taking place.

Work will stop for the Fourth of July holiday and from July 12-15 for the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts.

Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College is the contractor for the $3.8 million project.
