Lara Spencer Named 2014 Homecoming Grand Marshal
Good Morning America co-host Lara Spencer was named the 2014 Homecoming Grand Marshal at the annual Be A Part From The Start pep rally Sunday.
Spencer graduated from Penn State in 1991 following a successful All-American diving career, receiving a degree in broadcast journalism.
Spencer has been with ABC’s Good Morning America since 1999, garnering co-hosting duties in April of this year. Spencer was previously host of The Insider from 2004 until 2011, before moving over to Good Morning America as a national correspondent.
Last year, Spencer documented her time diving at Penn State for Good Morning America in a “Back to School” series. The anchor went back to the pool with longtime former diving coach Craig Brown in the segment, even showcasing one of her dives.
Back in February, Spencer appeared on Good Morning America with seven students to talk about THON a few days before the annual dance marathon. Spencer, a former THON dancer, led much of the discussion with the students.
Spencer will join Lunar Lion Team Leader Michael Paul, who was named the Honorary Grand Marshal for the event back in April. This year, Homecoming Week will begin on September 22nd and end on the 27th when the Nittany Lions face off with Northwestern. The week will again include staples of Homecoming year’s past, with the annual parade, unveiling of the THON theme, and carnival among the highlights of the week.
