Letter: Ezra Nanes Will Be a Leader on Renewable Energy

on September 18, 2018 4:45 AM

I can give you a long list of reasons for my support of Ezra Nanes for state Senate. This letter will talk about Ezra’s interest in renewable energy.

To discuss a bill that would set attainable and aggressive goals to create jobs, re-train workers, and realize the benefits a 100 percent renewable energy economy, Ezra recently announced plans to for a town hall on Sept. 24 at New Leaf Initiative in the State College Municipal Building. That is the act of a strong leader with clear vision for a renewable energy future.

In contrast, our legislature, under the leadership of Sen. Jake Corman, has looked backward to our energy past. A prime example is Sen. Corman’s support of Act 13 of 2012. In their Sept. 28, 2016 Robinson Township decision, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court deemed that sections of Act 13 granted unwarranted "special treatment" to the oil and gas industry and declared that those sections violated Pennsylvania’s constitution. These sections imposed unusually strict limits on health professionals’ access to information about substances used in hydraulic fracturing.

I have discussed energy and environmental issues with Ezra. I am strongly convinced that protecting our environment and reaping the economic benefit of transitioning to renewable energy are priorities for him. To have a state senator that will lead Pennsylvania into the renewable energy future it needs, vote for Ezra Nanes on Nov. 6.
