Letter: Marshall Will Make an Excellent Judge

on November 02, 2017 4:00 AM

Your vote for Court of Common Pleas judge is one of the most important you will make in a local election. I am confident that Brian Marshall has the experience, qualifications and temperament needed to be an excellent judge.

Family law cases involving child custody and division of assets in divorce cases take up a high percentage of a judge’s caseload. Brian’s experience as a successful family law attorney will allow him to hit the ground running in family law cases. His background as a CPA will help him to arrive at appropriate decisions in not only divorce cases, but also other civil cases involving financial decisions.

Brian also has experience as a criminal defense attorney. Although criminal defense has not been his primary area of practice, he still has more experience in criminal law than other sitting Centre County Court of Common Pleas judges had before they took the bench. I am a local criminal defense attorney, but Brian not having criminal jury trial experience does not concern me because the rules of evidence are the same whether a case is tried before a jury or judge. The primary difference between a judge and jury trial is how the lawyers present the case, not the substantive law or rules of evidence.

This county would greatly benefit from a judge with Brian’s temperament and credentials, so I ask you to join me in voting for him on November 7.
