Letter: Myers, Lafer and Murphy for State College Borough Council

on October 30, 2017 4:30 AM

Voters in State College Borough can elect up to three people for Borough Council. Evan Myers, Theresa Lafer and Dan Murphy best represent the various perspectives and constituencies in the borough.

Evan has served on several borough advisory boards before seeking and winning his current seat on the Borough Council. Observers recognize that he uses that experience, as well as the perspectives of an executive for a company with global reach, when weighing in on the issues that become before council.

Theresa has served two terms on council. She brings the perspective of a long-time resident who lives in a neighborhood impacted by the ebb and flow of Penn State students. Like a tide, that movement can put sand in the gears. Borough Council, staff, the university and student leaders have recognized that more work needs to be done to address the concerns of both neighborhood residents and students. As a result, inclusivity has become an issue in this Borough Council election.

Dan, as director of Penn State's Office for Student Orientation and Transition Programs, has the experience and perspective to represent concerns expressed by students that their issues are not addressed by the borough. His position may also provide the borough and the community a way to impact Penn State's orientation programs for the 10,000 new students who arrive in our community each fall.

Please vote for Evan, Theresa, and Dan when you vote on Nov. 7.
