According to the Daily Collegian, the State College Borough Council voted 4-3 on Monday to urge the State Theatre not to apply for a license that would allow it to serve alcohol at certain performances and events.

The State Theatre's Board of Directors is expected to meet today to discuss the theater's next course of action.  If granted the performing arts liquor license, the theater would be allowed to serve beer, wine, and liquor at select performances.  Liquor could be served two hours prior to the show and up to one hour after the show.

Mayor Bill Welch didn't vote on the measure but supports the idea of the liquor license and believes the license won't be associated with dangerous drinking.

Council members Theresa Lafter, James Rosenberger, Elizabeth Goreham, and Ronald Filippelli supported the measure of not applying for the license while council members Silvi Lawrence, Donald Hahn, and Peter Morris voted against the proposal.   (Read More)
