Little Lions Look to Stay Perfect

by on January 26, 2018 1:59 PM

The State College boys basketball team heads into its home game on Friday night against Cumberland Valley at 15-0 and with big goals ahead.

The Little Lions, in their fourth year under head coach Joe Walker, have tied the program record for consecutive wins and sit in first place in the Mid-Penn Commonwealth at 11-0 in conference play. In the past week State High has defeated second-place Harrisburg, 78-52, and came away with a 51-46 win over now third place Chambersburg.

Now State High sets its sights on a perfect season, which would be the first in school history, and the team's first state championship in 15 years.

Captain Drew Friberg knows what the team needs to do to finish out the year.

"Just be consistent," Friberg said. "I think sometimes we're a little up and down with our energy during some games. Just being focused... that will be the big thing."

Friberg had a game-high 27, including 15 on threes, in the Little Lions' last outing against Chambersburg. The senior forward is among the conference's scoring leaders at 19.6 points per game.

The Little Lions tip-off against Cumberland Valley at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the North Building gym. It's Alumni Night and players from teams past will be recognized at halftime. State College is then on the road Saturday night to face Reading.

Centre County Report's Eric Chambliss caught up with the team at practice this week.
