Magazine Ranks Penn State One of the Best College Campuses

Penn State’s campus was the hook, line, and sinker for me when making my college choice –- and I know I’m not alone in that respect. In fact, Business Insider agrees with me about the allure of the campus.

Business Insider recently ranked Penn State as the seventh best college campus in the country. The rankings were compiled using statistics from the Princeton Review’s 2014 Best Colleges book.

The selected categories include:

  • Best College Library
  • Great Financial Aid
  • Best Career Services
  • Best Health Services
  • Best Campus Food
  • Best College Dorms
  • Most Beautiful Campus
  • Easiest Campus to Get Around
  • Best Quality of Life
  • Town-Gown Relations are Great
  • College City Gets High Marks

Using those categories, Business Insider added up the points for each school to determine an overall ranking. Most universities in the top 20 included Ivy League institutions or small liberal art schools, with the “best” being Claremont McKenna College. In fact, Penn State was the only Big Ten school to make the cut.

Although I am sure Penn State didn’t do well in the “Great Financial Aid” category, there was one category in which the university trumped the competition. The career services office, which regularly holds fairs for graduate schools and work opportunities, was ranked No. 1 by the Princeton Review. This high score significantly contributed to Penn State’s overall ranking of No. 7.

While there is no perfect system to determine the best college campus, it is nice to see Penn State getting some well-deserved street cred.
