Man Arrested for State Patty's Day Incident Now Faces Rape and Sex Assault Charges

Prosecutors have now slapped rape and sexual assault charges on a man they say broke into a State College apartment and attacked a sleeping woman.

Twenty-year-old Justin Blake, of Newburg, Md. was arrested in the early morning hours of March 2.

He was originally charged with burglary, trespassing and indecent assault.

The incident happened in the 700 block of University Drive.

Blake allegedly entered the victim's apartment through a sliding door in the rear of the property. According to prosecutors he found the victim asleep in her bedroom and raped her.

The victim, a 21-year-old Penn State student, was able to escape and ran to her roommate who called police.

Police arrested Blake after he fled. Investigators say Blake was in town visiting friends for State Patty's Day.

In court Wednesday, Blake waived his right to a preliminary hearing and his charges were bound over to the Court of Common Pleas.

Prosecutors asked the judge to raise Blake's bail because of the extremely serious nature of his alleged crimes and also because he has no ties to the community. The judge agreed and increased Blake's bail from $30,000 to $300,000. Blake was sent to the Centre County Correctional Facility.

In a prepared statement, Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller said, "We were pleased with the increased bail in this very serious and violent case."

Parks Miller also advises residents to secure sliding glass doors by placing a strong dowel or steel rod into the door's track. That way, even if the lock is broken the door can't be opened.
