Men Being Charged in State College-Area Credit-Card Thefts, Police Say

on September 20, 2011 7:27 AM

Three men are being charged this week in connection with local credit-card thefts reported earlier this summer, State College police said.

Samuel Smith, 31, of Reedsville; Jason Ettinger, 32, of Lewistown; and Kevin Walker, 32, of Lewistown, are facing a variety of charges, including credit-card fraud, police said Monday. They said charges against Smith and Ettinger will include forgery and receiving stolen property.

Smith and Ettinger turned themselves in Sept. 1, after police released store-surveillance images captured in the case. It dates to July 24, when someone stole a purse from an elderly woman who was shopping in the Benner Pike Wal-Mart, in College Township, according to police reports.

One of her credit cards was soon used for purchases at Jamaica Junction in State College and at an Atherton Street Uni-Mart, police said.

Similar incidents were reported later in August at the same store and at Patton Township and Huntingdon County Wal-Marts, according to police reports. Smith, Ettinger and Walker are accused in connection with all of them.

More detailed information is included in an earlier report, a link to which is posted below.
