Update, Monday April 11, 2015, 4:00 p.m.:

Police announced Jon Steindorf, missing since Friday, was found safe and unharmed on Monday afternoon.

Police have not yet released additional details. They previously said that the 22-year-old had left his wallet and phone at his apartment and that they did not believe the case was a kidnapping.

His parents called police to report his disappearance after finding he was not at his apartment when they came to pick him up for graduation from Penn State. He had reportedly withdrawn from school the previous year.

Original story:

Jon Steindorf is still missing as of Sunday evening, but his mother now says her son wasn’t set to graduate this weekend and had in fact withdrawn Penn State prior to his disappearance — a fact unbeknownst to the family.

Remarks from Steindorf's mother, Joanne, posted on Facebook indicate that she had anticipated her son would graduate last weekend, but she instead discovered he no longer attended the university.

Here’s Joanne Steindorf's statement in full:

Thank you for all of your prayers and concern for Jon. And thank you to everyone who is out searching for him and sharing the message of Jon’s disappearance. Jon had been enrolled as a Penn State student and our understanding was that he had completed classes and we were anticipating him to graduate this weekend. The most recent information we have is that he was not, in fact, still enrolled, and was not on the list to graduate. That does not matter to us. We love Jon dearly and want him to return safely to his family and friends. If anyone has seen Jon, or has any idea of his whereabouts, please contact me or the State College police department. Jon, if you are out there, we love you. Please come home.

Joanne Steindorf was supposed to pick up her son from his apartment at 4:00 p.m. on Friday for graduation. But he wasn’t there, and the Steindorfs swiftly reported his absence to the authorities.

“The police have gone through his apartment, talked to his roommate and took his phone for forensic analysis,” Joanne Steindorf told The Daily Collegian. “We’ve been in contact with all of his friends, everybody they know, and really are just at a loss as to his whereabouts.”

Police describe Steindorf as a 23-year-old white man, 5’10” tall, 170 lbs with brown hair and blue eyes. He may have his black Specialized bicycle with him and a red backpack.

Steindorf left his apartment on Pugh Street without any form of identification, credit/debit cards, keys, phone, and potentially money, according to a social media post circulating among Steindorf's family and friends.

Anyone who can provide information is urged to contact State College police at 814-234-7150.
