More Snow Possible Tuesday Morning, Roads Could be Slippery, Schools Closed Again

The big winter storm that walloped State College on Monday continues to move north but we're not quite out of the woods yet.

Snow will continue to fall across our region Tuesday morning. "We still have some snow across the area, looking at radar, it's expected to continue at times through the day," says AccuWeather Meteorologist Mike Doll. "Untreated surfaces could pick up an additional inch of snow. Roads will be slippery Tuesday morning. Well get rid of the snow later this afternoon."

State College police are warning drivers to be careful. They say the main roads are mostly clear but there are still slick spots. Many side roads are still snow covered.

The State College Area School District began the day by announcing that schools would open on a two hour delay Tuesday due to the weather. However, the district later decided to close all schools for the seond consecutive day.

The Winter Weather Advisory that was posted overnight is scheduled to expire at 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Residents are still digging out from Monday's non-stop storm which dropped a considerable amount of snow. "On average, we got between six to eight inches of snow across the Centre Region," says Doll.

The snow will be easing up but now the winds will be picking up. And that could create new problems with blowing and drifting snow. We're expecting winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 30 maybe up to 35.

Don't look now, but another storm system is already heading our way. "That will bring additional snow showers Thursday afternoon and we could see some light accumulation," says Doll. "Certainly enough to bring another coating."

Going into the weekend it will become sharply colder. "Friday night were looking at low temps in the single digits," predicts Doll. "We're calling for a low of one above and Saturday with a high of 20. The winds won't be too terribly strong but it will feel like it's below zero at times."
