New Fitness Store To Replace Mr. Charles On College Avenue

by on January 20, 2015 3:45 PM

Fitness buffs rejoice: Anthym, a new running and general fitness store, is set to replace the Mr. Charles clothing shop on College Avenue.

Although there is no set opening date for Anthym, Ryan Callahan, one of the store’s owners, hopes to open business by mid-March.

With an emphasis quite similar to that of Philadelphia Runner — with which Callahan is also involved — Anthym is a newly-founded fitness lifestyle store. While running is the core focus of the store, it will also appeal to various other fitness lifestyles such as yoga, Pilates, and CrossFit.

Anthym’s role will be twofold: Not only will it sell fitness gear and accessories, but the store and its owners will also partner with local gyms and clubs, as well as host events, in order to create fitness-related community engagement. Callahan and the other owners aim to spark excitement for an overall healthy lifestyle, both in the store and throughout the area.

This downtown State College location will be the first site of its launch. According to Callahan, State College is the perfect fit for the store’s launch, as Happy Valley is home to a “great fitness culture.” The store will certainly establish a unique presence downtown, particularly with the recent opening of its nutritional counterpart, GNC.

According to the store's website, Anthym is currently hiring part-time and full-time employees, as well as assistant managers, with the starting dates of most positions falling in late January or early February.
