New Homes In County Will Require Sprinklers

According to the Daily Collegian, the Centre Region Council of Governments (COG) will require the installation of residential sprinklers and carbon monoxide detectors in new homes as of January 1st, 2011, even if the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania does not pass a statewide law regarding the installation of sprinklers and carbon monoxide detectors.

COG Fire Director Steve Bair believes that the installation of sprinklers and carbon monoxide detectors in residential homes will make the homes safer for homeowners and firefighters.  State College Borough Council President Elizabeth Goreham also agrees with Bair.

The idea is likely to meet with opposition from many Centre County residents and builders because of increased costs when building a new home.  (Read More)
