Penn State Football: Penn State and the Big Ten voted unanimously to accept Nebraska into the conference. Athletic Director Tim Curley described it as "a great fit."
"Their athletic accomplishments on the field of play are among the strongest nationally, and they enjoy excellent graduation rates," Curley said. "We have enjoyed our athletic competitions and friendships forged with Nebraska and are looking forward to welcoming their university staff, student-athletes and loyal alumni and fans into the Big Ten."
Phi Delta Theta: Penn State announced that it plans to demolish the century-old fraternity house it recently purchased and replace it with green space. The decision was supported by extensive vandalism that took place earlier this spring.
Farmers' Market: A new farmers' market will open up today in Patton Township. The market will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday through Nov. 20.
Hi-Way Pizza Closes: The Westerly Parkway Hi-Way Pizza has closed, but parent company Dante's Restaurants Inc. plans to open a new Hi-Way in another State College-area location. In the meantime, the other current Hi-Way Pizza will update its menu over the next few months.
MegaBus Adds Services: Discount bus line MegaBus will add trips to Philadelphia and Harrisburg from State College for as little as $1. The services will begin July 21.
Wanted Man Arrested: A 41-year-old Missouri man deemed "armed and dangerous" and wanted in both Missouri and Kansas was arrested this week after State College police stopped him in a reportedly stolen pickup truck.
