Nittany Express Expanding Airport Services with New Facility

Transportation company Nittany Express will expand its services for travelers at University Park Airport with the addition of an extended parking lot and new office building offering shuttle and valet services.

Groundbreaking will be held on Wednesday for the new facility on High Tech Road, just north of the airport.

“The growth within the State College area due to successful, expanding industries and Penn State University, prompted our decision for expansion,” Omar Ahmed, CEO of Nittany Express, said in a press release.

Nittany Express currently provides customers with shuttle services to and from University Park Airport, as well as several other eastern airports. The company will maintain its primary office at University Park Airport to meet travelers inside the terminal.

“Our new facility will provide convenient services for airport patrons and the traveling public. We aim to serve others and that includes other local businesses,” Ahmed said.

The extended lot at the new facility will have 220 parking spaces accommodating airport travelers and car rental companies. Along with the new 2,200 square foot building, it will include car detailing bays, a light maintenance refueling station and electric car chargers.

Benner Township approved plans for the facility in 2018.

“We are most excited that we will be able to create full and part-time jobs within the State College area and support the local economy by creating space for good paying jobs," Ahmed said. "We were also climate conscious in our decision to create ports for electric cars."

Construction will continue through the winter and Ahmed said he hopes to open the new facility as early as April 2020.

To expand his company, Ahmed worked with CBICC, Kish Bank, SEDA-COG, the U.S. Small Business Administration and business consulting services at the Penn State Small Business Development Center.

The company's expansion comes as University Park Airport continues to experience significant growth. The airport is projected to once again see a record number of travelers this year. It has increased its flights and destinations, most recently with the addition of Allegiant Air flights to Florida starting this month. The airport also is embarking on projects to expand parking and improve vehicle access. Another project to update the taxiway to accommodate larger aircraft is expected over the next several years.
