Non-Stop Flights to Link University Park Airport to Chicago's O'Hare
It appears that flying in and out of State College will be getting a bit easier, especially for travelers heading west.
United Airlines plans to start non-stop service from University Park Airport to its Chicago hub at O'Hare International.
ExpressJet Airlines will operate the United Express flights using 50-seat regional jet aircraft. The State College flights are scheduled to begin on Jan. 7, 2014.
Carriers at University Park have been doing a brisk business. According the the airport's director, Bryan Rodgers, FAA records show that 144,054 passengers traveled in and out of University Park Airport in 2011.
"Given the climate of the airline industry, with shrinking airline capacity and airline mergers, this announcement is significant for our community. Daily non-stop service to Chicago has long been a priority and we are very much looking forward to the start of this new service," he says.
United Airlines spokesperson, Karen Catlin says State College travelers, "... will have improved access to the nation’s third largest city and one-stop access to more of the world from United’s Chicago hub.”
United plans to offer two inbound flights and two outbound each day.
The airline already offers flights to State College from Washington Dulles Airport.
