Preliminary survey results indicate the damaging storm that passed through Centre County on Monday night produced a tornado in the Penns Valley community of Rebersburg, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologists from the NWS State College office on Tuesday were surveying the damage caused by Monday's storm in Rebersburg and other locations in the county.

Preliminary survey results indicate the damage in Rebersburg was caused by an EF1 tornado with a 1-mile long path, the NWS said in a public information statement. More than 25 properties were damaged by the storm.

Melinda Hooper provided the photo of an apparent tornado on Monday night pictured here. The photo was taken from a farm in Centre Hall, about 15 miles from Rebersbug.

Rebersburg, with a population of 494, is part of Miles Township. The township was struck hard by the storm and much of it remained without power through the day on Tuesday. One man was injured when a shed collapsed on him during the storm.

Countywide, more than 11,000 West Penn Power customers remained without power as of 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday

Township officials said in a Facebook post that residents should save photos of property damage.

"Township Officials met with county officials last night to perform an initial damage assessment, and will work through the day to perform additional in-depth assessments," the post said. "We may reach out to our residents for additional information, and we appreciate your help in advance."

They encouraged anyone with special needs to reach out to township officials, and thanked Miles Township Fire Company, township staff and volunteers for their work to clear roadways of debris.

Final results of the NWS survey are expected to be published later Tuesday afternoon.
