PA Supreme Court Hears Liquor License Debate

According to the Daily Collegian, the debate over an Altoona Sheetz's license to sell beer for take out made its way into the Pennsylvania Supreme Court after a number of appeals.

The Supreme Court heard a dispute between the Malt Beverage Distributors Association (MBDA) of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and Ohio Springs, Inc., an entity of Sheetz, Inc.  The issue that is being addressed is whether convenience stores can sell beer in accordance with Pennsylvania law.

Discussion would center around whether Sheetz would sell beer for on premise consumption in addition to off premise.  Michael Cortez, vice president and general council for Sheetz, Inc. said if the Supreme Court ruled Sheetz would need on site consumption as well, the store would comply.  (Read More)
