by on April 28, 2015 6:00 AM

Penn State sports teams rose two spots in the latest Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings and the Nittany Lions are now ranked No. 2 in the nation.

So far, Penn State has earned 859.00 Directors’ Cup points in the 2014-15 behind just Stanford with 1,101.5 points. North Carolina (823.5), Wisconsin (748.5), and UCLA (731.25) comprise the rest of the top five.

Ohio State, Florida, Texas, Notre Dame and Minnesota round out the Top 10. Nine Nittany Lion winter teams competed in their respective NCAA Championships, boosting Penn State’s total to 15 teams in NCAA competition this year. The football team also won the New Era Pinstripe Bowl.

Penn State is seeking its 11th Top 10 overall finish in the 22 year history of the Directors’ Cup. The Nittany Lions were No. 5 in the 2013-14 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings were developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 women's and 10 men's.

Penn State has won 26 NCAA Championships since 1993-94, its first full year in the Big Ten Conference, more than double every other Big Ten institution.

Penn State is one of only nine programs nationwide to have finished in the final Top 25 in every Directors' Cup standings, joined by: Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Southern California, Stanford, Texas and UCLA.
