Penn State Basketball: Frazier Set To Join Celtics In Training Camp

by on August 20, 2014 2:00 PM

Former Nittany Lion Tim Frazier has signed a training camp deal with the Boston Celtics according to Penn State head coach Patrick Chambers.

Frazier will join one-time Nittany Lion Chris Babb in Boston giving Penn State two players with ties to Happy Valley in the NBA although Frazier will be the only player in the league with a Penn State degree.

After a solid performance as a member of the Philadelphia 76rs' summer league squad, Frazier simply waited to see what the future would hold before connecting with Boston.

Frazier is the fifth Penn State basketball player to make the NBA since 1995 although it is reasonable to assume that it will be quite some time before the talented guard sees action during the NBA regular season.

It's very likely that this particular deal will see Frazier end up at Boston's D-League affiiliate, the Maine Red Claws. The Celtics already have 15 players, the league maximum, on guaranteed contracts, plus another three with non-guaranteed deals. Add in the fact that Frazier plays the same position as All-Star Rajon Rondo and it certainly isn't as if Boston is lacking talented guard play.

Even so, the deal is a step forward for Frazier who can now continue to keep his NBA hopes alive.
