Penn State Basketball: Josh Reaves Set To Miss Several Weeks Due To Illness

by on January 15, 2016 2:00 PM

Penn State freshman guard Josh Reaves will miss up to three weeks according to coach Patrick Chambers. Reaves, who missed Penn State's most recent game against Purdue has been diagnosed with mono.

Reaves is the latest Nittany Lion to come down with an illness, although the unspecified cold traveling the Penn State locker room is not mono.

As a freshman Reaves has averaged 6.4 points a game to go with 3.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest. While his numbers appear rather pedestrian on paper, Reaves' athleticism and tendency to be in the right place at the right time has made him a valuable asset all season long.

In Reaves' absence Penn State will likely turn to senior Devin Foster who has gone 3-of-4 from the field in each of the last two games. In turn while the position of forward and guard are not directly interchangeable, Reaves' departure from the rotation for the immediate future will likely also mean increased minutes for freshman forward Deividas Zemgulis. Zemgulis himself has been fighting off illness the past several days.

Penn State is back in action Saturday night at 8:30 in Evanston, Ill against Northwestern as the Nittany Lions look to pick up a second win in Big Ten play.
