Penn State Basketball: McKoy Released From Letter Of Intent

by on March 29, 2019 3:18 PM

Penn State basketball's incoming freshman class is down a player as Justin McKoy announced on Friday afternoon that he has requested, and has been granted, a release from his National Letter of Intent and will re-open his recruitment.

McKoy, a North Carolina product is rated a three-star 6-foot-8 shooting forward and the 15th best prospect in the state according to the 247 Network. He was one of four commitments for Penn State's 2019 class and one of three forwards. McKoy was largely recruited by mid-major schools throughout his high school career.

With his departure, the Nittany Lions will still welcome three other prospects headlined by shooting forward Seth Lundy out of Roman Catholic. He will also be joined by center Abdou Tsimbila from Maryland and forward Patrick Kelly out of Florida.

Prior to the loss Penn State's recruiting haul was rated 49th best in the nation and ninth best in the conference by the 247 Network.

While future talents are never a good thing for a team to lose, all things being equal, the Nittany Lions will not be short with options at forward next season, especially if Lamar Stevens is set to return. John Harrar is set to return for his junior season as well. Penn State lists Mike Watkins at forward as well, although his talents make him something of a hybrid between forward and center.

Mikeal Brown-Jones is Penn State's only 2020 commitment so far.

Thank you Nittany Lion Nation for the support and love. Ready to see what the future holds! pic.twitter.com/EpikIGQw3t
