Penn State Basketball: Nittany Lions' Big Ten Schedule Features Weekend Games, Return To Palestra

by on August 23, 2019 1:51 PM

Penn State basketball has finally received the scheduling favor from the conference it has been waiting for as the Nittany Lions are set to host four Big Ten teams on weekend dates and play Iowa at the Palestra in Philadelphia for a fifth advantageous home setting.

The full schedule listed below features it fair share of week day games for the Nittany Lions at home, but after hosting three weekend contests in 2018-19 over the course of the entire Big Ten schedule, Penn State will play all five of its weekend Big Ten home games in a span of just over a month.

Those games include competitions against Wisconsin, Ohio State, Minnesota and Northwestern.

A January 4th road trip back to the famous Palestra in Philadelphia will feature the Iowa Hawkeyes and coach Fran McCaffery, a Philadelphia native. Penn State beat Michigan State 72-63 at the Palestra during the 2016-17 season.

Penn State will follow up that meeting against Iowa with a fairly short drive to Rutgers just days later before retuning home to face Wisconsin on the weekend, a brief trip to Minnesota and Ohio State once against for a weekend meeting with the Buckeyes in State College. In fact the Nittany Lions won't travel farther from home Columbus in the opening 16 games of the season.

The Nittany Lions and coach Patrick Chambers will still have to win games against quality teams in order to take the next step, but after seasons and seasons of bad schedule luck, Penn State won't be able to point the finger at the conference if the Nittany Lions fail to navigate this particular slate of games.
