Penn State Basketball: Nittany Lions Drop Thriller to Iowa, 74-72
Final: Iowa 74, Penn State 72
What Happened: Penn State cut a 12-point lead to only two with four minutes to go but couldn't get over the hump as the Nittany Lions dropped a close one to Iowa.
Player of the Game: Penn State's DJ Newbill scored 26 points while shooting 55-percent from the floor. The sophomore guard played arguably his best game for Penn State with a glimpse of the future as he also pulled down eight rebounds.
Stat of the Game: Penn State went 10-of-15 from the free throw line, all five misses coming at crucial junctures while one make came as Jermaine Marshall tried to intentionally miss it.
Turning Point: Down two with only 35 seconds left, DJ Newbill couldn't convert a three-pointer in transition and Iowa hit two free throws in the next possession to bring the lead back to four. Penn State closed the gap to only one with a second left but a 80-foot shot by Brandon Taylor was long and wide left.
What It Means: Penn State falls to 0-11 on the year.

Halftime Update: Iowa 38, Penn State 34
DJ Newbill soared through the air and grabbed the ball high above the rim, slamming it down for an ally-oop from Jermaine Marshall. With the crowd on their side, the Nittany Lions opened up a 16-0 run to open up a 23-17 lead with nine minutes to go in the half.
It was a back and forth affair for the final 10 minutes of the half as both teams traded baskets shooting above 40-percent on the half.
The Nittany Lions were led by DJ Newbill who scored 16 points. Jermaine Marshall also had a nice half following a few games of cold play with 8 points and 4 assists.
The Hawkeyes were led by Mike Gesell's 10 points and an Aaron White three-pointer as time expired gave Iowa the four-point lead heading in to the half.
