Penn State basketball landed its first commitment of the 2019 recruiting class as Virginia native Patrick Kelly verbally committed on Thursday afternoon.

Kelly had visited Penn State this past weekend on an unofficial visit and was offered a scholarship this past August, the six-foot-seven shooting forward hails from Lynchburg, VA playing for Virginia Episcopal School. He is unrated by most recruiting services.

Penn State landed Kelly's services over the likes of Richmond, Providence, UNLV and NC State. Fellow Big Ten team Ohio State had visited Kelly not long ago.

The Nittany Lions will a handful of new faces for the 2018-19 season with guards Myles Dread and Rasir Bolton both having signed their letters of intent this past November. In addition to those two, Penn State has two hard commits from guard Daniil Kasatkin and center Tolu Jacobs Yaffa.

Penn State's 2018 class is ranked ninth best in the Big Ten by the 247 Network but that is likely to change as Kasatkin and Jacobs Yaffa  officially come on board.
