Penn State will open play in the 2014 Charleston Classic by taking on Charlotte at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20 on ESPNU.

The game will mark only the third of the 2014 season and the first of a three game event no matter how the Nittany Lions do in their opening contest of the Charleston Classic.

The remaining teams in the field include Akron, Cornell, Drexel, Miami (Fla.), South Carolina and Southern California.

Penn State will face either South Carolina or Cornell on the second day of the three-day event.

The multi-day, destination event will feature 12 games over three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracketed-tournament format. ESPN3 will have five exclusive games and ESPNU will air four, while the championship game will be shown on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

All games will be played at TD Arena in Charleston, on the campus of the College of Charleston.

Penn State opens the 2014 campaign against Morgan State on November 14 at the Bryce Jordan Center. This season marks the fourth under head coach Patrick Chambers and the first since the graduation and departure of All-Big Ten guard Tim Frazier.

The Nittany Lions will be led by senior guard DJ Newbill and a cast of experienced players as well as some new additions. Penn State will welcome three new faces to the roster this year.
