Penn State Basketball: Reaves Plays Well In Second Showing, Carr Waiting For Chance As Summer League Play Continues

by on July 08, 2019 2:00 PM

Former Penn State basketball players Josh Reaves and Tony Carr continued their professional journeys this past weekend as the NBA's Summer League got under way in Las Vegas.

With only a few more days to go in the fairly brief scrimmage period, both players have seen some action and will get at least two more chances this week to showcase their talents.

So far it has been Reaves stealing the show, or at least leaving a good impression on fans and onlookers in attendance. One Dallas Mavericks' blog had this to say about Reaves' play so far.

"Josh Reaves is going to be an exceptionally effective professional basketball player"

"It’s established that playing hard is a skill and Reaves plays exceptionally hard. I wasn’t impressed with his play last night as he fouled a lot (not many were called) and his shot looked bad. But in his second summer league game, Reaves looked confident on defense and once his first shot went down, the game really seemed to slow down for him. “It’s just summer league” is a consistent refrain these days, but there’s something about him that feels like it will translate eventually."

Fittingly Reaves' first points came as the result of a steal, the former Nittany Lion's bread-and-butter at the collegiate level.

As for Carr, an earthquake ended the Pelicans' opening debut early and the would-have-been senior say limited action in the following game. Both players are scheduled for two more games in Vegas with the first of two being play Monday. Reaves has already signed a two-way deal with the Mavericks while Carr will look to find his way back into the Pelicans' main organization, hoping to avoid another stint overseas.

Josh Reaves:

  • Nets: 2 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal
  • Rockets: 13 points (3/6 from three) 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal
  • Monday at 3:30 against the Kings on NBATV
  • Wednesday at 3:30 against Croatia on ESPNU

Tony Carr:

  • Knicks: DNP (Game ended early due to earthquake)
  • Wizards: 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists.
  • Monday at 9:30 against the Bulls on NBATV
  • Wednesday at 7:30 against the Cavs on ESPN2
