Penn State Basketball: Sasa Borovnjak Won't Return for 2013-14 Season
During the ESPN3 broadcast of Penn State's 84-74 victory over Duquesne, Saturday, announcers mentioned that Penn State coach Pat Chambers and redshirt junior forward Sasa Borovnjak have decided that the Belgrade, Serbia native will not return next season. Borovnjak, who medically redshirted in 2010-11 with a torn ACL, would have had the option to apply for a fifth year of eligibility.
With the injury sustained by senior guard Tim Frazier – who will apply for a medical redshirt following the season – and the addition of Pitt transfer guard John Johnson, the Nittany Lions are currently two scholarships over the allotted amount allowed by the NCAA for the 2013-14 season.
Borovnjak's departure and graduation from Penn State without a fifth year of eligibility opens up a much needed scholarship. The Nittany Lions will still need to open up a remaining scholarship to fall under the limit.
Borovnjak has averaged 13 points a game over the last three games while shooting over 70 percent from the field.
