Penn State Basketball: Staff Movement Opens Assistant Position
Penn State basketball is looking to fill a newly vacated assistant coaching position. The opening was not announced but a job listing posted on Monday morning tells the story.
“Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics, a Division 1 and Big Ten Conference Institution is seeking candidates for the job of Assistant Coach, Men’s Basketball. Assist with coaching the Men’s Basketball Team, with particular regard for planning, organizing and conducting team practices. Assist in game preparations, strategies and game management. Plan, organize and conduct recruiting campaigns. Coordinate game and tournament arrangements. Develop new techniques and strategies. Assist in conducting clinics and workshops.
“Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience. NBA or NCAA Div 1 Coaching experience required. Proven organizational, evaluation, administrative, and communication skills; a demonstrated ability to work well under pressure; and knowledge of NCAA regulations also required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding."
First reported by Blue-White Illustrated the new position isn't the result of a firing. Now former assistant Ross Condon has switched back to his role as director of program operations after a short stint as an assistant starting in 2015.
The timing isn't great as far as the hiring cycle is concerned, but it stands to reason Chambers and company had a few names in mind prior to the shakeup. And the Nittany Lions have a bit of time to work with before Penn State travels to the Bahamas for its foreign tour in early August.
