Penn State Basketball: Trip to Barclays Center Highlights Emerging 2013-14 Schedule
Only days following the end of the 2012-13 Nittany Lion basketball season, fans can start to piece together what could be an exciting campaign in 2013.
Penn State confirmed Saturday evening that the Nittany Lions will be making the trip to the brand new Barclays Center located in downtown Brooklyn, New York as part of the second annual Barclays Center Classic from Nov. 29-30. The Barclays Center opened in September of 2012 and its $1 billion dollar price tag is only part of the proposed $4.9 billion dollar business, sports, and residential complex.
While Penn State did not confirm the opponents for the Barclays Center Classic, ESPN has reported that St. John's, Georgia Tech, and Ole Miss will take part in the event.
The first year of the Classic featured games conducted at campus site locations as well, pitting each team against one another following the double-header in Brooklyn. Those dates, if applicable for the 2013 event, have yet to be announced.
Penn State will look to rebound from a 10 win season in 2012 with the return of All-Big Ten guard Tim Frazier as well as the addition of four freshman and Pitt transfer guard John Johnson. The Nittany Lions will also retain two of the conference's top scorers in guards DJ Newbill and Jermaine Marshall.
While Penn State's full 2013 schedule will likely not be announced for some time, previously scheduled home-and-home series do give fans a brief glimpse in to the future schedule. Some of these games are as follows.
- Visiting Bucknell at Sojka Pavilion in Lewisburg, Pa (Bucknell will visit Happy Valley in 2014)
- Penn at the Palestra in Philadelphia, Pa.
- Against LaSalle at the Bryce Jordan Center
- A trip to take on Duquesne in the third game of a four game series. Location TBD.
