Penn State Basketball: Wheeler Commits To Nittany Lions

by on April 28, 2017 2:50 PM

Penn State basketball needed a backup point guard to work behind Tony Carr and the Nittany Lions found their man on Friday afternoon as Oak, Florida native Jamari Wheeler committed to Penn State.

Wheeler had recently visited State College during Blue White weekend and the Nittany Lions made his top five landing spots as his decision drew nearer. In the led up to his commitment to Penn State, Wheeler had been considering and recruited by USF, Seton Hall, JMU and Auburn. Prior to verbally committing on Friday, Wheeler had been committed to Duquesne but reopened his recruitment following the departure of coach Jim Ferry

On the scales Wheeler comes in at 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds as well as a three-star rating by all recruiting outlets. Wheeler joins incoming freshman Trent Buttrick, another Florida prospect, as the only two members of the Nittany Lions' 2017 class.

Penn State has two remaining scholarship openings on its roster but it's unclear how many will be filled this summer and for which recruiting classes, 2017's incoming class or a future 2018 prospect.
