Penn State Basketball: Zemgulis Gives Penn State The Firepower It Needs From Beyond The Arc
Penn State basketball may have missed out on the Kareem Canty sweepstakes earlier this week but Pat Chambers and his staff bounced back with a verbal commitment from 2015 forward Deividas Zemgulis.
Zemguilis announced his commitment on his Twitter account.
Zemgulis is currently playing his high school basketball in Maryland but is Lithuanian in terms of nationality. At 6-foot-6, Zemgulis is a potential matchup issue for opposing defenses as -- despite his size -- his bread and butter happens to be from beyond the arc.
There's no guarantee that Zemguiis is the answer to Penn State's occasional three point shooting woes, but if he can score one or two makes from deep on a regular basis it can go a long way toward keeping defenses honest on the perimeter.
Penn State has had mixed success bringing in talent that is at least allegedly deadly from behind the arc. In any case, Zemgulis isn't undersized which means he can at least provide some defensive assistance if his shot isn't falling early in his career.
Zemguiis joins fellow 2015 commit Mike Watkins who is quickly becoming one of the more coveted recruits in the Pat Chambers era. If Zemguilis can hit his threes and play defense to Chambers' liking, he could also become a prized asset very quickly.
