Penn State Disputes National Magazine’s Safety Ranking
on February 20, 2008 6:57 AM
Penn State University officials are fighting back against a recent article in a national magazine that says the school’s safety and security is sub-par.

A Reader’s Digest article published last week gave Penn State University a “C” grade. The magazine ranked Penn State 113 out of 135 schools when it comes to on-campus safety. The magazine says there are not enough campus surveillance cameras and there is no emergency response plan. And the publication says student dorm halls are not monitored with an attendant 24 hours a day.

A Penn State spokesperson says there is in fact a comprehensive and thorough safety plan in place. And the university says only students and staff assigned to a particular dorm hall or on-campus residence can enter them.

Penn State called the survey misinformed and misguided.
