Penn State Football: 2018 Commit Adds To Offensive Tackle Depth

by on May 06, 2017 3:47 PM

Penn State football added another offensive line prospect to its Class of 2018, as tackle Bryce Effner verbally committed on Saturday afternoon. The Illinois native officially announced his commitment on Twitter.

On the scales, Effner comes in at 6-foot-5, 275 pounds and committed to Penn State over a host of other schools including the likes of Duke, Kansas State, Maryland, Minnesota, Syracuse and others according to recruiting outlets.

Nationally, Effner is rated a three-star talent by the 247 Network's Composite rankings system, the 71st best offensive tackle in the country and 19th best in the state of Illinois.

From the outset it looks as though Effner projects, at least early in his career, as a depth player with the duo of four-star tackles Nana Asiedu and Antwan Reed already committed to Penn State's 2018 class. Quarterback Justin Fields and running back Ricky Slade are the headliners thus far when it comes to 2018, both five-star prospects at their respective positions.

Penn State's 2018 recruiting haul is currently ranked the nation's third best.
