Penn State Football: Al Golden, Eyed as Potential JoePa Successor, Bound for Florida

by on December 13, 2010 12:29 PM

Temple football coach and former Penn State football player Al Golden is the new coach at the University of Miami football program, the school announced last night.

Mike Kern, a writer at the Philadelphia Daily News and a Penn State graduate, covers the story here: Golden Opportunity as Temple Coach Moves on to Miami (Dec. 13, 2010).

Published speculation the past few years had suggested that Golden would be interested in succeeding football coach Joe Paterno at Penn State.

Golden lettered for Penn State as a tight end from 1989-1991, and was a co-captain in 1991, when the Nittany Lions went 11-2. Golden spent one year as an assistant coach at Penn State, in 2000. As head coach at Temple, he was 0-5 against his alma mater, including the 22-13 loss in 2010 — the closest game of the five.
