Saquon Barkley was named to the Sporting News first-team All-American squad at the midway point of the year. The honor was announced on Monday afternoon.

Barkley, who is perhaps the best do-it-all player in college football, averages 217 all-purpose yards per game. The best in the nation. After the bye week, the Nittany Lion standout is 104 yards behind fellow All-American running back, Bryce Love of Stanford.

So far this season Barkley has 649 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He also has 395 yards receiving and one kickoff return for a touchdown.

Penn State is set to face Michigan this upcoming weekend. Last season Barkley had 136 yards of total offense behind 77 yards receiving and 59 rushing. In 2015 Barkley had 87 yards on 15 touches against the Wolverines.

The Nittany Lions are ranked No.2 in the nation, the highest mark since 1999. Barkley is coming off of an 84-yard performance against Northwestern. His first of the season below 180 all-purpose yards.
