Penn State Football: Bill O`Brien Set To Interview For Texans`Job

by on December 26, 2013 9:13 PM

Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien will interview for the Houston Texans' head coaching position, according to the NFL Network which broke the news Thursday. The interview was reportedly scheduled for after Christmas, meaning that it may happen soon or may have already taken place.

O'Brien interviewed with the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles last season before continuing at Penn State. The Nittany Lions' third-year head coach renegotiated his contract following those interviews. The new contract was released in June and included a lower buyout and more lenient stipulations if O'Brien were to accept an NFL job.

The future of Penn State's head coach remains to be seen, but O'Brien's willingness to interview with an NFL team is not an automatic indication of his interest in leaving Penn State.

Following the 2012-13 season, O'Brien hired Neil Cornrich as his new agent, replacing Joe Linta.

There is little doubt that Penn State fans would be disappointed to see O'Brien leave so early in his tenure, but there is equally little doubt that he has positioned the program for success far greater than where it stood following the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
