Penn State Football: Blacknall Returning As Polk Hits Injury List

by on October 05, 2016 6:00 AM

Penn State football will be without starting middle linebacker Jason Cabinda for yet another week according to head coach James Franklin.

"We were hopeful that we going to have Jason Cabinda back this week," Franklin said at Tuesday's press conference. Cabinda, who has missed every game since the season opener with a hand injury, led the Nittany Lions in tackles during the 2015 campaign. Brandon Smith, Jake Cooper and Manny Bowen have all taken reps at middle linebacker.

While Cabinda won't be back for Saturday's meeting with undefeated Maryland, Penn State will be with the services of wideout Saeed Blacknall. The junior wideout had two receptions in Penn State's season opener, missing the following four games with injury.

"He will be back this week. So we're excited about having him back, based on his size and strength. He may play Mike linebacker." Franklin added with a laugh.

But perhaps predictably, Penn State's injury plagued season isn't without a new addition. While the Nittany Lions retuned cornerback Grant Haley last week after sustaining an ankle injury, speedy wideout and sweep specialist Brandon Polk won't be available against the Terps this weekend.

"He's had some off-the-field issues in terms of injuries that have kept him out -- I probably shouldn't say off-the-field issues, but he's had injuries that have limited him and held him out." Franklin said.

And so the ongoing drama continues for the Nittany Lions looking to survive to the bye week, hoping to make it to the always anticipated clash against Ohio State healthly and with a 4-2 record.
