Penn State Football: Blue White Game Live Blog

by on April 12, 2014 12:00 PM

It's a beautiful day here at Beaver Stadium as fans start to file in for the annual Blue White game to close out spring practice for the 2014 season. The team and coaching staff has been split into two separate squads as the Blue and White teams. The Blue team is largely what many would consider to be the starting unit on both sides of the ball although the White team has a fair share of talent in its own right.

The first quarter will feature regular timing and the final three quarters of the game will be timed with a running clock. Regular scoring rules will apply.

Prior to the game, Maryland defensive tackle Adam McClean announced that he has committed to Penn State. McClean is rated a four-star prospect by multiple recruiting outlets. Additionally, the verbal commitment gives Penn State 12 commits for the 2015 class, 8 of which are rated at the four-star level. As a result Scout.com now rates Penn State's 2015 class as the best in the nation.

5 minutes until kick and the crowd is still packing into the lower bowl. Couldn't ask for a better day to play and watch football. Franklin and his staff going with the brown pants, blue polo and Penn State hat outfit for today's scrimmage.

Hackenberg goes 50 yards through the air to Geno Lewis but the pass is just a stride to long and Lewis only gets his right hand on it. Was open for the play though and Hackenberg made a nice throw.

State College native Jack Haffner lowers the shoulder for the White team and makes a big hit while carrying the ball. Haffner with a few carries on the drive and White goes for it on fourth down but comes up short. Austin Johnson and CJ Olaniyan with the stop. Haffner with 4 carries for 11 yards.

-

Michael O'Connor in for the Blue squad and Cole Chiappialle with two strong carries to start off the drive.  Three carries for 29 yards so far. Short drive stalls and Gulla will come out to punt.

-

White struggles on ensuing drive. Little of note over the span.  Blue will take over at the 20.

O'Connor in at quarterback again, not dropping back all that far in the pocket and his outlet pass to Kyle Carter is dropped. Blue goes three and out and that's the end of the first quarter.
