Penn State Football: Cain and Reid Both Expected to Play Saturday

Penn State is expecting the services of cornerback John Reid and running back Noah Cain this weekend against Minnesota, according to coach James Franklin.

Asked on Tuesday about the status of Reid and Cain, Franklin — who largely avoids status updates on the health of potentially injured players — stated bluntly that Penn State is anticipating both players will see time this weekend.

"We're expecting them to go," Franklin said.

It's good news for a Penn State team looking to knock off fellow unbeaten No. 13 ranked Minnesota in Minneapolis on Saturday. Cain has largely been the most effective back in a four-man rotation while the tenured Reid has long been a staple of consistency and high football IQ throughout his career at Penn State.

Cain was seen struggling to walk off the field following Penn State's win over Michigan State two weeks ago while Reid was nursing an apparent upper-body injury to his left shoulder, arm or neck area.

It remains to be seen how effective both players are coming off their respective bumps and bruises, but depth at both positions at least gives Franklin and his staff flexibility if either player appears to have lost a step come Saturday morning.
