Penn State Football: Clifford Elite 11 Finalist, Headed To 'The Opening'

by on June 06, 2016 12:30 PM

Penn State quarterback commit Sean Clifford took one more step towards being one of the best signal callers in the 2017 class as he was named an Elite 11 finalist, earning an invitation to The Opening, a combine style event held in Oregon with some of the country's best prospects.

Clifford was named the Elite 11's most accurate passer after a weekend of drills and competitions against some of his fellow 2017 quarterbacks. At 6-foot-2, the Cincinnati native verbally committed to Penn State in July of 2015 to then offensive line coach Herb Hand. The 247Network composite rankings has Clifford as a 4-star prospect and the 10th best quarterback of the 2017 haul.

The news that Clifford is an Elite 11 finalist gives Penn State a third straight quarterback commit to bring home those honors. Clifford follows in the footsteps for current freshman Jake Zembiec and now former Nittany Lion and current New York Jet, Christian Hackenberg.

Clifford will travel to Oregon for The Opening this July.
