Penn State Football: Collins, Wisniewski Up For College Football Hall Of Fame

The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced today the names on the 2018 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, including 75 players and six coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 98 players and 31 coaches from the divisional ranks.

Also inluded, former Nittany Lion quarterback Kerry Collins and offensive lineman Steve Wisniewski.

While at Penn State Wisniewski earned 1988 First Team All-American honors and was a member of the 1986 12-0 national championship team. He helped Blair Thomas rush for 1,414 yards and 11 touchdowns in 1987 and D.J. Dozier attain First Team All-America honors in 1986.

As for Collins, the 1994 consensus First Team All-American was the winner of the Maxwell and Davey O’Brien award and led the nation in passing efficiency (172.9) as a senior and named 1994 en route to being named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Yea. Collins also led the Lions to 12-0 record, a Big Ten title and No. 2 final ranking in 1994.

The class will be announced Monday, Jan.8 during SportsCenter between 9:30 and 10 a.m. EST

According to the NFF, of the 5.19 million individuals who have played college football since Princeton first battled Rutgers on Nov. 6, 1869, only 987 players, including the 2017 class, have earned induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, or less than two ten-thousandths (.0002) of one percent of those who have played the game during the past 149 years.
