by on October 22, 2015 8:48 PM

Three-star defensive tackle Christian Colon announced Thursday that he has opened up his recruitment process again, and is now no longer verbally committed to Penn State.

"I would like to say thank you to the coaches and fans at Pennsylvania State University," Colon said in a statement on Twitter. "I have decided to Reopen my recruitment. ...I have to do what is in the best interest of my family and I."

Rivals.com rates the 6-foot-3, 325-pound Colon, who attends Independence High School in Charlotte, N.C., as the 49th-best defensive tackle in the nation. Colon had received offers during his initial recruiting period from many schools including Pitt, UCLA, North Carolina and Maryland.

Colon was reportedly set to enroll early this January

Penn State still has defensive tackle commitments from Ellison Jordan and Michael Dwumfour for the 2016 haul that is in addition to four commitments at the defensive end position.

The Nittany Lions' recruiting class is currently ranked third best in the nation by Scout.com with 19 commits although that could change slightly following Thursday's news and if any other possible commitment changes take place. Perhaps most well known, Four-star corner Lavert Hill and four-star kicker Quinn Nordin.
