Penn State Football: John Reid To Miss Most Of 2017 With Injury

by on April 06, 2017 4:07 PM

Penn State football will be without cornerback John Reid for the majority, if not all, of the Nittany Lions' upcoming 2017 season, after suffering an injury during spring practice. The news was first reported by Lions247 on Thursday afternoon and confirmed by StateCollege.com.

Reid is coming off of an honorable mention all-Big Ten season having started 14 games during Penn State's historic 2016 campaign opposite Grant Haley at corner.  By the season's end Reid had racked up 36 total tackles, 5.0 tackles for a loss and an interception.

One of Penn State's most versatile players, Reid also managed some responsibilities at punt returner as well.

Fortunately for Penn State the Nittany Lions aren't short on talent in the secondary behind Reid, although the junior will be sorely missed. James Franklin will likely turn to rotation players Amani Oruwariye or Christian Campbell in the immediate future while freshmen Lamont Wade and Zechariah McPhearson find their legs.

Wade could play corner as he did in high school but seems well on his way to a move to safety alongside veteran Marcus Allen. The injury to Reid may change those plans though.
