Penn State Football: Lasch Building Renovations Hit Caravan Circuit

PITTSBURGH-- For all of the pomp and circumstance that goes on at the various Penn State Coaches Caravan stops the motivation is very simple -- get fans involved in Penn State athletics, and more importantly, get their money involved.

Beyond the ongoing debate regarding the importance of sports in today's society, there is nothing wrong with that. Fans know what they're getting when they sign up for a caravan stop and the vast majority of them are the types most likely to contribute to the cause.

Perhaps that's why the latest renderings for the Lasch Building renovation project were on display during Thursday's Coaches Caravan stop in Pittsburgh.

Renovations, improvements and in many ways the overall image of the program is something that fans can control. They can't call the plays and they can't make long term plans. But money, that buys a lot of things. It, in its own way, wins national championships.

"One of the things that's been interesting to me is that, a lot of times, you hear the board approves a certain amount of money to be spent on something in Lasch," James Franklin said on Thursday. "Well, typically, that's money we've already raised, and when you heard the board making that announcement, that's permission to spend that."

The Lasch Building improvements are slated to cost roughly $20 million. Penn State will upgrade everything from the nutrition bar to branding across the building.

Little things perhaps, but when it comes to top level talent picking between top-level programs, the little things are really what makes the difference.
